In trying to weed out some of my moms things again, I came across this card I sent her. I dated my note 1981 so I guess this photo must be around that time. I see "my city" almost daily and I am amazed when a building is in a spot it wasn't a day before. I can hardly recognize this view. I know if I had a chance to drive my parents thru town today they would not even know where they were,it's all so different. I am most sad about the prime views of "my harbor" are being blocked by new condo and hotel buildings. Fortunately daily I pass a section of town where there is a panoramic view of the harbor. I could not live in a place that doesn't have a "tide chart". I love knowing when it's high or low tide,somehow that matters.

For some reason, I expected Baltimore to look a lot different. Not so many skyscrapers, although I guess there are more now. I had a more romantic vision of Baltimore. Downtown shops and cafés and harbor areas to stroll around in.

Interesting! you should try to get a contemporary picture so we can see the difference like you do. Baltimore is one of those American cities with so much history (and stories) attached to it. I've seen it only on tv and in movies, but I've always felt it was its own "person", like, say, Austin or San Francisco.
I can totally relate! Whenever I go back to Beirut, I don't recognize it! As a matter of fact, I feel a complete "tourist" after 24 years of exile!
