WE HAD A BABY!!!

So far one of the 3 eggs hatched on Valentine day! It is small and scrawney and pink. Mama lovebird lays on top of it and feeds into it's beek. If it survives it will be named Sean. Little John helps feed it also. I did a little caracature of them and the 3 eggs. I can't wait to look in with my flashlight to see again. Now this is odd,in reading up, it says feed them mashed eggs so they can give it to the babies. Birds eat eggs??? Oh no!

I suppose you hard boil them and which part do you give them then, the yolk I suppose? It must be the most nutritious part, but I had never heard of that either.

You are lucky to have some youngsters. Does that happen a lot, that they breed in captivity?

Yea! Congratulations grandma! I raise poultry (guineas and chickens) and it is very common to feed babies cooked (boiled) egg yolk. It adds protein to their diet which most baby birds need. I have never done this as I feed prepared hight protein chicken feed, but you should be thinking about their diets now. There should be a blog or forum for them somewhere.

Congratulations Joy! I'm partial to the name you chose because I married a Sean. I think he'll be a survivor! I never knew the babies needed hard boiled eggs either. It must be that the protein is necessary for them. A google search should reveal something interesting. Keep us posted...xoxo

This is wonderful!! I am sure you will find out about the eggs and little Sean is destined for greatness with his parents.

Congratulations to you, John and Yoko. I had no idea birds were cannibals. It really blows my mental picture of them.
